well i am after dropping my car 30mm but everyone keeps telling me not to bother at all as it upsets some thing in the car set up. Is this true or do u have to get all the other bits rather than just apex springs?. What are the best power mods for the clio 182 anyhow??
i was toying with the idea of a 106 gti before i bought my 172 cup....i'm soooo happy i didnt get one though, because every time i plant my foot a smile instantly stretches acorss my face. If you want comfort go for the 106 or a full fat 172 as you get leather & alcantara interior, sound deadening and climate control or air con. I've got none of that, but my needs were different.......i figured that when i was a little older and more sensible i'd get a nice comfy car......for now i've got my cup though, and loving every second of it!

Ill stick with my 182 thanks. I can't see the 106 having superior handling over your 182, especially if it has been lowered 50mm as it's too low for these cars & would probably handle worse than std setup imo. -30mm is about the limit if you want it to handle & you need a good set of springs/dampers (stiffer arb/torsion bars if you're going hardcore!) for it to benefit over std. Also, what engine management is he running since fitting cams or has he had the std ecu mapped?
The 106Gti is in Clarkson's book, featuring the top 100 cars of all time.
A very interesting thread... Has anyone else seen that old Jeremy Clarkson video with a track test of loads of cars including (it's from a while ago hence the old cars): Ferrari 550 Golf VR6 106 GTi ... and lots of other serious machinery They have Richard Burns and Tim Harvey reviewing them, and the 106 GTi wins. There's another Clarkson video where he's saying the 106GTi is the best thing since sliced bread!

I had a 106Gti. I miss it dearly - the ultra light steering and pin sharp handling were very kart like. I went from that to the large hot hatches (Alfa GTA and R32). Both were technically 'better' cars, like a clio 182 on steroids, however the 106 is special in a way these just are not. It really is a tink kart and silly good fun. Yes I've had faster cars (prodrive and 111R), but the 106 is still very special. If you want quiet for a motorway get a med-large hatch. If you want wiggly road fun get a 106.
thanks for all the comments . think the 172 is the better car , but the price of the 106 is very attractive . ...
